  • It is common to see large polypores (members of the mushroom family) growing in the moist forests of Washington state. These bright-orange polypores and the green moss next to them are growing on a large log that used to be trail bridge crossing a creek.   • Wind-blown trees on Cape Flattery make a good foreground for the dark-blue Pacific Ocean and Tatoosh Island. Cape Flattery is the northwesternmost point of the contiguous United States.
