Death Valley 2013 - Day 6 - Rhyolite, Badwater, Golden Canyon
Following Ryholite, we continued on to Badwater to see what was there (and to say we had been to the lowest point in the continental 48 states). We ended our day walking in Golden Canyon, which is a good place to be near sundown.
"Badwater Basin - 282 Feet / 85.5 Meters Below Sea Level" sign on the boardwalk at Badwater Basin, with the salt flat behind it. The rough, brown area is what most of the lake bed looks like. The bright white is the smooth area walked on by tourists. (I overheard a ranger saying that the sign is actually at more like 280 feet. You have to walk out a couple of miles if you want to get down to 282 feet below sea level.) (3/22/2013, Badwater Basin, Death Valley NP)
